If you were aware of the relationship between Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and head coach Toddy Haley, then this news is of no surprise. He was dead man walking all season. Todd Haley is available for any NFL or college football team to hire.
The Kansas City Chiefs today announced that Todd Haley has been relieved of his duties as head coach effective immediately.
“This was a difficult decision but one that we feel is best for the future of the Chiefs,” Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. “Although there have been bright spots at different points this season, we have not made meaningful progress and we felt that it was necessary to make a change. We appreciate Todd’s contributions during his time with the club, and we wish him well in the future.”Don't worry, Todd Haley was not fired. He was "Relieved of His Duties." No matter how the Chiefs phrase this, Haley has now joined the Jack Del Rio and Tony Sparano (reportedly) club.
Josh McDaniels and Kirk Ferentz have become the top speculated candidates. Scott Pioli's family members can also be rumored candidates. CEO Clark Hunt has put his team in Pioli's hands, if the Chiefs fail with whomever he hires, do not be surprised if the GM is fired before the head coach next.
If only Charlie Weis was still available.
