Ndamukong Suh is expected to return this weekend from his two game foot stomping suspension, but this week of preparation for Sunday's important comeback game has started off disappointingly for Detroit Lions fans. I'm guessing Suh didn't want to put a foot in his mouth during a weekly radio interview with Mike Valenti and Terry Foster on 97.1 The Ticket, the Lions' flagship station in Detroit, while discussing his accident and image issues.
The interview did not go cleanly.
Ndamukong Suh was able to keep his composure and show off his true marketable talents for the beginning half of the interview, but during the middle of the interview, he did not like the fact that the interviewer wanted to know about, what Suh calls, "personal issues (car accident)."
Lions fans should just be happy that this act of intensity did not lead to a personal foul call or an ejection. Though Suh's P.R. people are feeling the opposite during this time, in which Suh should be on image repair.

He handled it very well, moving on.
ReplyDeleteGive the guy a break. Why is it we get our kicks out of someone else's misfortune? From what I heard the radio guy didn't know what to ask Mr. Suh and it sounded like that is what ended the interview, not Suh walking out. Mountains out of molehills... Geez
ReplyDeleteWow! Waht an A-hole! Another example of a media puppet trying to create controversy for the sake of making a story. The man answered your questions and did so in a professional manner. Get over it! Stop trying to turn everything into a drama show!
ReplyDeleteBasically a bum no class no honor no sportsmanship. Get his kicks on cheap
ReplyDeleteshots to other players.
I do not understand what part of NO the interviewer did not understand, but he should get his XXXX together and go on with the rest of the story.
ReplyDeletei listened to the whole interview. suh handled himself very good. valenti is a talentless hack and is owed nothing from suh. foster used to be good, but has morphed into little valenti. valenti believes he's the most important person on radio and can't take it when someone stands up to him. valenti is an embarrassment to 97.1 the ticket.
ReplyDeletevalenti is a dick. period.
ReplyDeleteHehehe.... I'd say, by the comments here, that the 'free press' isn't too happy with the blowback. And on your own news site, to boot.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty nice, 'the system works'.
Suh is a smart guy, but.... he's young. He'll do just fine.
Valenti asked the questions the fans wanted answers for. Suh showed he's not sorry for anything in the past two weeks!! I had enough of this guy and the Lions would be fine without him. Trade this head case as soon as the season is over.
ReplyDeleteSuh did the right thing by ending that conversation and he did it respectively. The announcer is the one that got bent out of shape and carried on about it just because Suh wouldnt answer his questions. Just because the questions are being asked doesnt mean they have to be answered. Get off your high horse. It is his personal life and if he doesnt think it concerns you then it doesnt.
ReplyDeleteSuh sounded very articulate and polite. His responses were respectful and without anger. The media sucks !
ReplyDeleteI am asking for the resignation of both Mike Valenti and Terry Foster of 97.1. They cannot be Journalist – or let be re-phrase that responsible educated Journalist. As a result of their irresponsible actions and comments during the interview with Ndamukong Suh I belief both of them should terminated.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they should resign their position for not bowing down at the altar of Suh.
ReplyDeleteLions need to dump 97.1 -- they can do much better!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou talking heads,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Sue gave you the brush. I'm a Packer Fan and Yes a Sue fan too. Respect him when he says that he has "no further comment." Stop digging for dirt. His team is his family; he is not going to say anything to the contrary.
Why not concentrate on the positive? Look what Sue has DONE for the team and the city of Detroit! One day the Lions will win the Super bowl. Sue is the foundation for that!
Please tell me commentators, “Sports know-it all’s” that what you learned in college has not gone to waste. Why not try to find a positive spin on this. Unite, rather than divide. If not, you’re lazy and not worthy of listening to. Please don’t take the easy way out; anybody can do that.

The media addiction of thinking we as fans want Drama - like the Tiger Woods BS - instead of an interview about the player and thier ablility and how they are performing vs was he getting a BJ and maybe thats why he got into a wreck is a Media sickness that I hope goes away soon
ReplyDeleteHe is one of the mvp's of football and any team that would say they didnt want him would be lying. Welcome back Suh! Way to much said about the whole thing anyway. He didnt hurt that guy at all on the packers. Should he have done it??? No. It will be time to make up for lost time Sunday vs the Raiders....look for some big plays from him.
ReplyDeleteI am so mad about this interview that for the past several hours I have been developing a Boycott 97.1 website. Will be launched tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAhh, a boy named Suh. I don't blame the host for asking those questions, and I don't blame Suh for being mum. However, don't rip on the host. He wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't ask those particular questions.
ReplyDeleteI have no complaints regarding the questions asked. It was commentary and behavior of both Mike Valenti and Terry Foster during the end of the interview. Unprofessional!!!!! They are no longer welcome in Detroit. If they had any class they would apologize to their listeners for their immature behavior.
ReplyDeleteDon't know anything about 97.1 or the two "journalist". The first interviewer seemed to be fair in how he handled the answers. However, the second is an A$$. People say they don't like this type of personal attack (which it actually was), but they won't speak out and get this idiot out.
ReplyDeleteSuh, was as respectable as he could possibly be and bowed out with grace. It's people like that, that are all talk but wouldn't approach the person with that attitude in real life.
It would really be a justified Suh stomping.
The host is doing a poor job, as he is only concentrating on one thing. Anybody, I mean anybody can report/comment on the negative. Only a professional, a true radio/tv commentator professional can bring out the positive. How long have you been drinking the kool-aid? If you believe everything they say/comment on, you’re lost, you have not a clue. Go to bed, save your breath!
ReplyDeleteJoe P.
This was REAL radio! Way to go Mike. You ask the questions that are on the minds of the fans.
ReplyDeleteYes a agree...."REAL" unprofessional radio!!!!
ReplyDeleteEric, let me guess, you work for the radio station. No, these are Not the questions from the FANS or the ones on thier minds. Obviuouly you did not read the comments. Get a life and stick with TV.
ReplyDeleteJoe P.
I am not a fan of Suh's recent behavior - but give me a break. This "reporter" was just being a pushy jerk - there is no story here. This interview makes Suh look like the victim. Suh's on-field penalties have been embarassing for the team and it is nice to hear him finally trying to own up to some of it. The reporter's focus on the car accident and the overall rude pushyness during the interview was over the line and handled incredibly poorly. I would have left too! Ironically this side-show probably warrants an apology to Suh!
ReplyDeleteMIKE VALENTI IS A TOOL. WAY TO GO BRO
ReplyDeleteHe is a mean man...no reason for his behavior!!!
ReplyDeleteSuh is a total self absorbed douche bag.It is a small comfort that his career will be short lived, because offensive linemen will be taking shots at his knee's every chance they get.Remember that karma thing you were talking about suh,it's going to come back and bite you right in you fat ass. There is no player dirtier than suh not even Harrison as bad as that sounds.
ReplyDeleteSuh is accountable to the NFL and the Detroit Lions and not to the forever pathetic Valenti and his puppet Foster.Suh did the crime, paid his fine, and served the time. Move on. 97.1 would be better without these two losers, Valenti and Foster.
ReplyDeleteread the comments and Valenti and Foster were wrong - why did they push a subject they were not going to get any feedback on ? They are the only two trying to put controversy where there is none anymore - let Suh get back to playing football and make another mistake (?_) that'l show who he is but these two jerks owe him an apology for their mistake -
ReplyDeleteThe radio guy was right on. These arrogant athletes get a pass too often. The celebrity cult of personality has gone too far. As a society we need to put these people in their place when they put other lives in danger. You fools thatblame the interviewer are part of the problem. Detroit is just so desperate for any success in any sport besides hockey that they will give Suh too wide of a berth. Grow up and demand more from your heroes.
ReplyDeleteThe radio interviewer has a right to ask questions, and Suh has a right not to answer them. Suh has serious anger issues, and I hope he is mandated to seek professional help. However, he handled these radio idiots well by declining to answer their questions. Their intent was to start more mess and create controversy.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't know these hosts, sounds like they weren't going to be satisfied unless they got Mr. Suh to "go on tilt". Could they take a lesson from DP, RIB, or perhaps LOONEY on how to get an answer to the query w/o inciting the guest to just end the interview altogether? Jeff In Phoenix.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all Suh didnt act stupid,he told the FOOLS at the ticket it was a in house thing. Why is that hard for those wanna bes at the ticket to understand.Hey Ndamukong dont listen to the guys at the ticket, hell they fought for Matt Millen to keep his job against my and other Lions fans wishes.Best part Ford jr fired him that same week(after my and probably other TRUE LIONS FANS spoke out).Just stay cool man youre one of the best lions NTS in history and maybe league history. The ticket is another ESPN fighting to keep califonia,NewYork and Florida teams number 1.Its a Big Money,Big market worship.Way to go Suh,walk away from those bums again,Thats a good start being more professional than the rating hungry FAKE LIONS FANS at the ticket. You can control it man,you can do it.Stay true to yourself Suh you have REAL fans that will back you on this.Keep youre cool.TRUE LIONS FAN MIKE L.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Ndamukong! Being one of your biggest fans, i'm more interested in whats going on with you and the team. You're absolutely right in the fact that you're personal life should be personal. These morons think they are asking these questions for me, but they are wrong.
ReplyDeleteHe belongs in the Bush league with Kurt. Grow up and fly right fool
ReplyDeleteValenti is a Michigan State azz hole
ReplyDelete97.1 should be thankful the Lions and Suh talk to them. Hell, they should be happy any one other than Valenti and Foster's lemmings talk to them. Suh handled them very well. They sucked. Listening to Valenti and his Foster child, is 4 hours of your life you will never get back. Suh has talent. Valenti and Foster don't - and never will. 97.1 - get rid of these two douche bags. Go Lions.
ReplyDeleteValenti IS an azz hole AND an embarrassment to MSU and Spartans everywhere.
ReplyDeleteDid Clinton have sexual relations with that woman? Don't care, has nothing to do with running the country. Suh, what happened with the auto accident? Again, don't care, has nothing to do with his job as a player for the Detroit Lions.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Valenti and Foster have every right as journalists, radio personalities, sports talk show hosts and fans of the game to ask about his actions from the Thanksgiving game. I’ve been listening to all of the interviews with Suh from the national media and local media and I have drawn similar comparison between Suh’s attitude and the attitude of Colonel Jessop from the movie A Few Good Men. To quote the Colonel, “We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.”
In the interview Suh says that he wants to keep everything in house and only owes an explanation to his teammates, coaches and his true fans. My issue with that statement would be that I do not believe that Suh could define what a true fan is if you asked him that. I believe that Suh defines his true fans as someone who does not question his actions on or off the field; in other words, yes men.
As a player, I feel Suh is an incredible talent. As someone who lives in Detroit, I hope he can be the player that everyone expected him to be coming out of college. Unfortunately it is still too early to determine if he will be a positive or negative impact on his team.
You may want to attack the interviewer and that fine. But what Suh does on the field is as much of a hack as anyone on GODS green earth! Plain and simple he should be out of the game for at least a whole season! Maybe banned for life! On Thanksgiving Day he stomped on another players arm in front of the whole football watching country! Get a clue people! These are millionaires trying to hurt millionaires physically! I say if he hurts someone and ends their career then he should have to pay the salary of the player loosing his income for as long as the contract would have been in affect! Or simply put him down like we would a rabid dog!
ReplyDeleteand at least I'm big enough to leave my name!
The questions should have been directed at football... as suh requested1 Such as.. Why is it you think you can stomp on another player and not be penalized for it? Why is it you disagree with a suspension that you got from STOMPING on a guy? How do oyu plan on playing football in the future with respect to others, which at this point you apparently do not have? Those are the questions he needs to answer. He is no different than Haynesworth... if he wants to disrespect players and the NFL by such atrocious acts as his then you should be barred from suhc sports and activities that place you in the media spotlight and in the position to be role models for our children. Is that what we have come to accept from professionals? to commit such acts and not have to answer for them to the media and to ther poeple that look up to them? lets wake up people, his accident is one of our business but his acts on the professional football field are and he should answer for that publicly!
ReplyDeleteMany Packers fans want Suh out, but of coarse didnt hear about the FACT that Packers Player were untying his shoes throughout the game.So lets not suck the Packers Dicks just yet on this subject.Because their Champions they get to be assholes? They probably did that because Suh whipped their asses last year.Despiration can be a nasty thing when you think youre untouchable CHAMPION PACKERS.Why isnt anyone bringing that up?Oh yeah because were Detroit.Chicago refs cheat us all the time.I didnt think GreenBay had to resort to that since their such "Great Champions.Mike L.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to ask Suh questions about football than that is what the fans want to hear. Maybe the women are more into the personal things but the men want to hear football.
ReplyDeleteWhy was Suh never asked what prompted his anger in the Green Bay game. Could it have been someone was untieing his shoe laces. Anyone that dumb deserves a stomp for being an idiot. If you wave a red flag in front of a bull you are going to get gored.
