Is the injured reserve list the next football move Peyton Manning makes this season? After the news that ESPN's Chris Mortensen confirmed today, it will likely be.
Colts owner Jim Irsay said on his Twitter that an announcement is forthcoming. On Wednesday night, Irsay tweeted: "Peyton didn't have a medical procedure last Sunday, we'll have more info 2 add clarity 2 situation soon." On Thursday, Irsay tweeted: "NFL Season opens 2nite! We had a good practice yesterday and r guys r fired up 4 the season.#18's (Peyton) out for awhile, but compete,we will/BELIEVE."
ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that Peyton Manning underwent cervical fusion surgery on his neck Thursday morning. Manning's recovery timetable is 2-3 months at minimum and that there's no word yet on the possibility of him being placed on injured reserve yet.

The Indianapolis Colts will hold off until the last moment they can before placing their leader on the inactive list for the remainder of the season due to injury. For now their quarterback is the newly signed during the preseason Kerry Collins. The Colts' question if he knows enough of the playbook for week one's game this week against the Texans. So that obviously tells you how their season will turn out.
If Jim Irsay and Bill Polian were only readers of Sorry Bro Sports last month, they would of known to trade for Tim Tebow even though he is pricey (around $8.0 million this season). Broncos had him as their 4th best QB, and wouldn't of cost a high draft pick during the preseason. Let the Brett Favre to the Colts rumors begin.

UPDATE: Here is the Colts' statement regarding Peyton Manning's new procedure:
As previously stated on Monday, Sept. 5th,Other Stories: Three Predictions for NFL SeasonPeyton Manning has undergone further testing and consultation with several specialists regarding his rehabilitation. The results of these tests and the consensus of the consultations was that further surgery was warranted. Peyton has undergone this surgery today by having a single level anterior fusion. The surgery was un-eventful.
This procedure is performed regularly throughout the country on persons from all walks of life, including professional football players. Two former Colts players had this same procedure last winter and have fully resumed their careers. Rehabilitation from such surgery is typically an involved process. Therefore, there will be no estimation of a return date at this time. We will keep Peyton on the active roster until we have a clearer picture of his recovery process.
Peyton will immediately begin the rehabilitation regimen mapped out by the surgeon. We anticipate no further updates or availabilities beyond those required by the NFL Media Policy for the immediate future.
