For the survival of a conference, one man had to go. Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe was that man. Let's just say, the conference defeated the man Thursday.
The Oklahoma Sooners were first to make the threat earlier this week that, "if we stay in the Big 12, Beebe would have to go." Other Big 12 Presidents all followed and agreed that the commish was the martyr of the conference. So, instead of having an awkward meeting with his "business friends," Dan Beebe decided on Thursday to resign immediately as the commish.
A source close to the process told The Dallas Morning News' Chuck Carlton that Dan Beebe has resigned as Big 12 commissioner, effective immediately. The Big 12 announced Thursday that they have, in fact, reached an agreement for Dan Beebe to resign.
The Tulsa World news reported Wednesday that there was a consensus among Big 12 leaders to ask commissioner Dan Beebe for his resignation. Also that former Big Eight commissioner Chuck Neinas has been targeted to serve as the interim commissioner until Beebe’s replacement is identified. The latter has yet to be confirmed yet.
Texas A&M is still persistent that they will leave the conference to go to the SEC, but the conference still looks like it will survive at least one more year. As they will spend this season finding a worthy 10th team, just like a new commissioner, to replace the formers.

As long as the Texas Longhorns have the Longhorn Network, the conference will continue to be year by year with each school's decision to stay. Which will now be the lasting legacy that Dan Beebe left the conference after just over four solid years as the Big 12 commissioner.
Update: In his final day as fake Big 12 commish, the fake Dan Beebe twitter account tells the world how the Big 12 was and will be. Enjoy retirement haus.
