Pat Summitt is battling Dementia

Arguably the best female coach to ever coach basketball, Tennessee woman's college basketball coach Pat Summitt will have another hurdle to face for the upcoming years. According to CBS Sports, Summitt is currently battling the illness known as early onset dementia.

Former women's basketball players at Tennessee are getting calls Tuesday that Volunteers coach Pat Summitt, 59, has been diagnosed with dementia.
An announcement is expected later in the day, CBSSports.com has learned. Former players are flying into Knoxville, Tenn., from all over the world to be there for Summitt -- who will try to coach this season, according to a former player.
Such awful news for one of the most respected coaches of all time. Summitt has done so much for women's college basketball with her eight national championships and an Olympic gold medal.

She talked to the Nashville News Sentinel about her illness.
She sounded like herself in saying: “There’s not going to be any pity party and I’ll make sure of that.”
“There were some mornings I would wake up and think I don’t even want to go in,” she said. “That didn’t last long but it was like ‘What’s wrong with me? What’s going on with me?"
“I feel better just knowing what I’m dealing with,’’ she said. “And as far as I’m concerned it’s not going to keep me from living my life, not going to keep me from coaching.”
Hopefully she can continue, like she plans, to do what she loves to do and coach the Volunteers until she is ready to end her legendary career on her own terms.
