Magic Johnson told Dwight Howard He's Not NBA Material
In a recent interview with to promote a video game, Dwight Howard revealed that when he was 15 that Magic Johnson told him he would not make it to the NBA. Dwight Howard proclaimed that Magic Johnson thought that he would never be big enough for the NBA.
Dwight Howard confessed to ESPN, "[Magic] said I was too skinny. Magic inspired me by telling me I wasn't going to make it, that I was too little. I was in 10th grade when he told me I was too skinny to play in the NBA. I said, OK, we'll see." The incident sparked a challenge for the then skinny 15-year-old Howard to lift weights and gain strength throughout his basketball career. Which now causes fear for every NBA franchise that faces the 7'0 Superman-type physique center each night during the NBA season.
Who knew Magic Johnson was a dream-killer? Luckily for the Orlando Magic, Dwight Howard took those comments as a challenge instead of mental defeat. If he had been defeated by those words, Emeka Okafor would of been that #1 choice back in the 2004 NBA Draft.
